Following the success and overwhelming interest in the Build Back Better Workshops and using the knowledge developed through that process Simon Alepio, Simon Hong, David Kaunitz and Partner Housing Australasia structural engineer Bruce Hutchison developed the standard shelter. Through the World Vision Solomon Islands response run by Brett Cowling two shelters were built in villages requiring complete reconstruction. These served as further training for the communities of New Mondo (Keigold) and Taparri (Simbo Island).
Following this training both communities went on to reconstruct all their shelters. In Tapari Village on neighbouring Simbo Island, Simon Alepio led the reconstruction of the community which had been completely washed away by the tsunami. In Mondo Herrick Ragosso led his community to build new shelters and establish the new community of Keigold.
The shelter design went on to become the standard shelter for the entire 2007 Response across Western and Choiseul Provinces. The design was subsequently improved following lessons learnt from implementation
