Board Members
Simon Alepio
Founding Chair of South Ranongga Community Association
- Simon is an eminent local builder and important community leader. Prior to the 2007 he worked in Honiara on large complex buildings. Following the disaster in 2007 he initially volunteered his skills despite his difficult personal circumstances to help the communities of Ranongga and Simbo Islands. This lead him to lead reconstruction projects for World Vision and Habitat for Humanity including as Operations Manager for the World Vision response. Simon continues to be active in construction and mentioning younger community members. He is a cornerstone of ranongga.org both through his high level of technical skills and community leadership.
Herrick Ragosso
Founding Chair of South Ranongga Community Association
- Herrick is an accomplished local leader and the Honourable Member for North Ranongga. He came to this position through his community leadership following the 2007 disaster which saw him lead the relocation and reconstruction of his village. This project was the largest single community development project following the 2007 disaster and involved lobbying and liaising with a variety of Governments, UN agencies and NGOs. Herrick has shown himself to be selfless in the pursuit of community development outcomes.
Rod Johnston
Founding Board Member Ranongga Community Association

Rod Johnston is a civil/structural engineer and builder, with Masters Degrees in International and Community Development and Structural Engineering. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer, with over 40 years experience in the design, construction, research and development of buildings in Australia and overseas. Rod has been instrumental in setting up the Ranonga Community Associations and mentoring Simon, Herrick and others on good governance.
David Kaunitz
Founding Board Member Ranongga Community Association

David Kaunitz is a practising architect with broad experience in post disaster reconstruction and international development, including extensive projects in the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Cook Islands and The Philippines. He was one of the first responders to Ranongga following the 2007 disaster and the only expatriate to live on Ranongga during this period. He speaks fluent Pidgin and some North Ranonggan Language, Ganoqa.
Advisory Board
The advisory board is made up of eminent people with significant experience in international development in the Solomon Islands. They use their experience to review and advise on the activities of ranongga.org.
